1965: The Early Days

The year was 1976, and Stephen Suckling, the company founder, loaded his Ford Fairlane with engineer’s files and vices and set off on his first sales trip. The family business had started!

The company moved from strength to strength over the years, slowly incorporating other numerous agencies to help New Zealand with every need in the engineering, manufacturing & construction industries.

Miles Suckling, the start of the second generation, joins up and adds new talent and drive to the company. Responsible for introducing the HILTI brand into New Zealand, he has an eye for quality and innovation that results in performance and profitability.

We were approached by a floor coating manufacturer to source a mixer to mix three bags of material to improve application consistency. After extensive research, we found nothing to meet industry requirements.

We started developing a custom-built mixer with the original prototype of the first Hippo being manufactured and tested.

1999: Released To The Wild

The first mixer completed and released on the market as the Hippo PMH70. This model was a five bag/70-litre mixer that allowed efficient mobile mixing and pouring for the first time in history!

Two PMH70 Hippo’s successfully install the largest resin floor coating application ever done in the United Kingdom at that time; 25,000 square meters of DegaFloor compound in a food processing plant.
